Woods and Waters Coastal Around Town About the Artist Home

Pam Redick

I have been a lifelong artist. After studying art at the Worcester Art Museum and Valparaiso University in Indiana I spent the first twenty years of my career painting and exhibiting in the Chicago area and In 1988 returned to New England. My work has won prizes at the Art Institute of Chicago, The National Academy of Design, the Chautauqua Institute and The National Association of Women Artists. My work is in various public art collections including Fidelity Investments, UMass Memorial Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, the University of Pennsylvania, WPI, the Brauer Museum of Art at Valparaiso University, the Provincetown Art Association and Museum and the Miami Dade County Public Art Collection. I enjoy experimenting with different media and styles and various kinds of collaboration but always continue to paint realistic acrylic paintings that seek a meditative peacefulness and instances of everyday magic.

A young artist finds their style, media and way of working. In my early years I thought I could set myself apart from others by developing a very precise detail oriented style that required patience and hard work. I missed New England and painted things that reminded me of home. These are examples of that kind of work.

When I returned to New England I gradually began painting more landscapes as metaphors for emotions and moods and reminders of what is it like to be at a particular place at a particular time. I loved working on Baxter State Park's publication "Wildnotes" exploring all over the extremely beautiful park painting this place I love to share the illustrations with others who love the park as much as I do. CollaborativeCreativity-

Art Xii was a women's collaborative art group. We worked together on projects in the central Massachusetts area to become more creative, spread the love of art and learn from each other about different media. We explored collaborative printmaking, artist books, self portraits, and mail art. This experience made me open to creative possibilities outside of my comfort zone beyond painting. After this I found Hitrecord.org, an online community of artists that was a film production company. I contributed to various projects, publications, short films and TV shows and learned by doing things I never thought I would want to do like TV shows, coloring books, playing cards, editing creative videos using their many artist contributors' resources to select materials to remix. Doing something really worthwhile was actually a possibility here. Create together is an example of a production that aired last year. I have a small part in this episode.
